What this actually means for you
- The salary on the Certificate of Sponsorship must meet both the general threshold (£41,700) and the SOC-code-specific going rate. Whichever is higher applies.
- The going rate is set by ASHE (Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings) at the 25th percentile for that occupation, then uplifted 50% per HC 590.
- Part-time work counts pro-rata at the full-time-equivalent rate.
- If your role is on the Immigration Salary List, the 20% discount applies to both the general threshold and the going rate.
- Tradeable points (PhD-relevant, STEM PhD) can substitute for some salary headroom — but the floor is £33,380 regardless.
